The Journey Of The World - 2069 Words

â€Å"We Spaniards know a sickness of the heart that only gold can cure† (Cortà ©s). In the hustle and bustle of Fullertonellà £ in the 16th century; a small yet prosperous port city on the East Coast of Spain, a sister city of Barcelona, the towns people are busy preparing resources and supplies for the upcoming voyage to the new world. This voyage will be lead by Cortà ©s and is expected to yield much gold, and other valuable resources. I, Esmeralda Armstrong- de Castro, the daughter of a Spanish Noble and a British Duchess, though my life has been anything but glamorous. My parents were killed during a trip to France by thieves who not only murdered them but robbed them as well, which left me alone and penniless. I was raised in an orphanage†¦show more content†¦So you could say I have had a pretty successful career thus far considering the fact that I am a woman, but my newest endeavor involves me traveling by ship over 5,000 miles to an unknown territory, they say that the voyage could take up to three months, yes, I, Esmeralda am going on the trip to the new world being lead by our very own Hernan Cortà ©s, our great fearless explorer. On this voyage my job is to record and describe the events on board the ship and the ways of the new world. I do expect there to be challenges mainly because I am a woman entering into a man’s world. I fear for my life because many who travel abroad may not ever s ee home again, but that is the risk I am willing to take for the love of my job and of my country. I know I will face danger like that of illness, bad weather, disrespectful men, and the unknown possibilities of the new world. I am excited, nervous, and anxious knowing that our date to set sail is fast approaching. I cannot wait to feel the sea spray on my face and the ocean winds though my hair, but I have heard that the ships can eventually emanate a foul odor but at this point nothing can break my spirits.
